Join in festive events throughout 2019, as the destination reflects on its golden anniversary
With a history dating back to 1969, the Bavarian town of Alpine Helen-White County, about an hour and a half north of Atlanta, celebrates 50 years in 2019.
The popular destination originated as the brainchild of leaders who sought to create a place for visitors to enjoy while traveling through the Northeast Georgia Mountains. Helen, now known as Alpine Helen, transformed itself with gingerbread trim, cobblestone alleyways and Old World towers to become the very embodiment of the Bavarian charm we know today. With sweeping mountain views, rolling hills and beautiful vineyards, modern-day Alpine Helen couldn’t be more picturesque. From leisurely strolls to hiking, biking, views from zip lines or car rides, every season offers a reason to visit this Georgia mountain town.
Save the date! Alpine Helen will ring in its 50th year celebrations on New Year’s Eve, December 31, 2018, and will continue celebrations throughout the year, adding extra special elements to already beloved annual events, such as the Fourth of July Fireworks, Helen Arts and Heritage “A Night at the Museum,” planned for August 16, the Downtown Street Dance, scheduled for August 24, and many more celebrations planned throughout the coming year. In 2020, the party continues with Alpine Helen’s 50th Celebration of its Annual Oktoberfest–the world’s most expansive Oktoberfest celebration, lasting almost two months every year. The German-inspired Alpine Village of Helen is idyllic for celebrating Oktoberfest and is by far Helen’s biggest party of the year. Tap your toes to German music, dance and enjoy authentic German food and drinks. Practice your Polka and get ready for the Chicken Dance…Oktoberfest is always a blast.
