Ho! Ho! Ho! From Alpine to Appalachian, get ready to celebrate the holidays with these events in Alpine Helen, a Bavarian beauty set in the Northeast Georgia Mountains, about an hour and a half north of Atlanta.

On November 18, make plans to attend the Appalachian Christmas Celebration and Pancake Breakfast with Santa at Babyland General Hospital. www.CabbagePatchKids.com

Take in the lights at 6 p.m. on November 24 during the Annual Lighting of the Village in Downtown Helen. www.HelenGA.org

Fill up your shopping bags at Helen’s 10th annual Christkindlmarkt, a German tradition where the center of town is filled with booths offering specialty gift items, decorations, assorted savory food, drinks and candied treats, December 2-3 and December 9-10, Helen Market Platz, www.HelenChamber.com.

The Helen Christmas Parade, sponsored by the Alpine Helen-White County Convention and Visitors Bureau, winds through town 2 p.m., December 9, Downtown Helen, www.HelenGA.org.

Don’t miss the Annual Christmas in the Mountains Lighted Parade, 5-8 p.m., December 2, in Downtown Cleveland, www.WhiteCountyChamber.org.

Find one-of-a-kind Christmas gifts with German flair, sample pastries and raise a pint to the most wonderful time of the year all while making your holidays brighter with a weekend or week-long getaway. Spend time in the village of Sautee where authentic Appalachian artwork, pottery and handmade toys make it easy to find something for everyone on the Christmas list. After shopping, relax at one of the area wineries, complete with breath-taking views. Savor a sip at award-winning Habersham Winery, one of Georgia’s oldest and largest wineries with a gift shop that is an oenophile’s paradise featuring French oak barrels, American oak barrels, varietal vinifera wines and Georgia grown and produced wines. Yonah Mountain Vineyards Tasting Room is set in the foothills of Yonah Mountain and offers sips at a beautiful hand-crafted wine bar with sweeping views–home to the State’s only wine cave and deriving its name from the Cherokee word “yonah” for “bear.” The charming Kaya Vineyards is built atop a ridge that is 1,600 feet above elevation making it the ideal place to sit and savor a drink while taking in the surrounding beauty of the North Georgia Mountains. Serenity Cellars celebrates the fusion of wine, music and art in a setting with Tuscan sensibilities. Cenita Vineyards and Winery features magnificent views of Yonah Mountain. And, The Cottage Vineyard and Winery offers a beautiful vineyard with 360-degree mountain views.

Ring in the New Year with the Dropping of the Edelweiss New Year’s Eve Event, from 8 p.m. until midnight, December 31 at Helen’s Festhalle. www.HelenChamber.com
