Mississippi’s “Home of the Blues” has live music playing every night
CLARKSDALE, MISSISSIPPI–APRIL 2026–The lore is generations old and the music has spanned decades but in Clarksdale, Mississippi, widely known as the home of the Blues, the performances are alive with a spirit that fills the venues and schedule that fills the calendar. Located in Coahoma County, just 70 miles south of Memphis, Clarksdale is near Mississippi’s northwest border with Arkansas and is where U.S. Highway 61 and U.S. Highway 49 intersect, known to Blues fans as the much-acclaimed crossroads.
Clarksdale is known for its hometown legends like Muddy Waters and Sam Cooke and continues to nurture young talent and draw experienced musicians who crave the musical spirit here. The result is an impressive number of venues and phenomenal mix of performers that are filling the calendar with live Blues music shows. The seven-night-a-week schedule includes a funky mix of live performances at a variety of locations and a heaping helping of the personality and diversity that makes Clarksdale so special.
For a true juke joint experience, there is no place like Red’s Lounge (398 Sunflower Avenue, Clarksdale, Mississippi 38614; 662-627-3166). It is known internationally as one of the oldest venues of its kind still in operation. Its decades-old history includes booking Black musicians on the Chitlin’ Circuit during the Jim Crow era. Funky music and cold beer are the stars of the show here, Thursday through Saturday.
Bad Apple Blues Club (349 Issaquena Avenue, Clarksdale, Mississippi 38614; 662-624-1201) is another joint with that well-worn, no-cares style. Here, proprietor Sean Apple, known as a showman, historian and accomplished musician, brings his “Blues Music & History Show” to patrons at 3 p.m., Wednesday through Saturday. For a little something different, Ooze Bar (113 East Second Street, Clarksdale Mississippi 38614) combines live music and ventage toys. This late-night venue is open for music, beer and fun Fridays through Mondays.
Hambone Art & Music (111 East Second Street, Clarksdale, Mississippi 38614; 662-403-8810) is known for art in many forms. In addition to its strong music lineups, Hambone, owned by artist and musician Stan Street, is also an art gallery. Located in in a historic downtown building, the venue is open as a gallery and bar daytime, Tuesday through Saturday, and for special evening events including a popular Tuesday night concert series featuring touring and local artists representing a variety of genres.
For those who want to get their Blues fix early, Bluesberry Café (235 Yazoo Avenue, Clarksdale, Mississippi 38614; 662-627-7008) serves up breakfast and live blues on Saturday and Sunday mornings in a fun, relaxed atmosphere. The café is also open for dinner and live music on Monday nights. For an amazing dinner accompanied by live music, Levon’s Bar and Grill (232 Sunflower Avenue, Clarksdale, Mississippi 38614; 662-302-6474) is second to none. This is a unique Delta dining experience based on creative and innovative Southern cooking and an evolving seasonal menu. Levon’s has a full bar and gluten-free, vegetarian and vegan options available upon request. Live music adds to the atmosphere two or three nights each week.
Ground Zero Blues Club (387 Delta Avenue, Clarksdale, Mississippi 38614; 662-621-9009) is one of Clarksdale’s best-known music venues and has a reputation for bringing both local and regional acts to perform every week. Musicians take the stage Wednesday through Saturday, including a variety-filled Thursday Jam Night. The food menu includes sandwiches and Southern favorites and the atmosphere is family-friendly.
These are just a few of the venues keeping Clarksdale’s legendary musical legacy alive. And most any time of year, the list of weekly live music performances shares the destination’s stage with the musical lineup of local festivals, workshops and other special events. From the spring Juke Joint Festival, now in its 23rd year, to the summer’s Sunflower River Blues & Gospel Festival to the Crossroads Music Festival in October, this town is always celebrating its musical past and present and always welcoming guests to not just listen but the feel the music in the air.

It is filled with memorabilia, photographs, recordings and more, telling the stories of Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, Charlie Musselwhite and other legends.
Crossroads Cultural Arts Center (332 Delta Avenue, Clarksdale, Mississippi 38614; 662-483-1294) is designed as a space for learning about local history, storytelling through music and the visual arts. Its walls are covered with original work from local artists and intimate seating spaces allow visitors to enjoy the music performed on its small stage.

Clarksdale is home to one-of-a-kind lodging options that will add to any Delta experience. There are nationally recognized hotel brands for those looking for conventional lodging options, but boutique downtown hotels, unique vacation rentals and rural farm shacks are all options here.
