This northernmost region of Alabama stretches the breadth of the state, with Interstate 65 as the north-south artery, from just an hour south of Nashville at the Alabama state line, down to the quaint city of Cullman. The diversity of the region makes it a popular one for many vacationers but more and more are finding its options for relaxation truly seem to have possibilities for everyone.
Enjoying a beautiful view is naturally relaxing and North Alabama has many “aaahhhh”-inspiring spots. Seven covered bridges and more than 27 waterfalls (Waterfalls of North Alabama) dot the region’s landscape and create picturesque scenes for the viewing. Many are found in remote areas surrounded by opportunities for hiking, picnicking and photography. Beautiful sunset views are in abundance here, too. Some of the best spots to catch the moment are at one of North Alabama’s seven amazing state parks which comprise a variety of landscapes, amenities and experiences, tucked away in some of the state’s most peaceful surroundings.

The design genius of another American treasure is on display at the Frank Lloyd Wright Rosenbaum House (601 Riverview Drive, Florence, Alabama 35630; 256-718-5050). The only Wright designed structure in Alabama, the house is an excellent example of the Usonian-style and also contains furniture designed by Wright.
For those who crave art to feed their soul, there are many local art markets and cooperatives throughout North Alabama. To take in an extraordinary array of glass creations, a visit to Orbix Hot Glass (3869 County Road 275, Ft. Payne, Alabama 35967; 256-523-3188) is in order. Orbix is known for creating museum quality sculptures of understated elegance with superb craftsmanship. For a more traditional gallery experience, the Huntsville Museum of Art (300 Church Street South, Huntsville, Alabama 35801; 256-535-4350) has a reputation for bringing high-caliber touring exhibitions to the region. The nationally accredited museum boasts fourteen galleries which include prestigious traveling exhibits and the work of nationally and regionally acclaimed artists as well as the museum’s own permanent collection. Carnegie Visual Arts Center (207 Church Street NE, Decatur, Alabama 35601; 256-341-0562) is located in one of the country’s historic Carnegie libraries. The center has changing exhibits and also hosts artist’s workshops and receptions.
